Mini Pig vs Farm Pig: How Big Do They Get?

A piglet small enough to sit on your lap can grow into an animal you cannot lift. If you are choosing a companion pig, the useful comparison is between adults. Our photograph shows a miniature pig alongside a Piétrain-type farm pig.
What does “miniature” tell you about size?
Miniature pigs are generally smaller than the large breeds raised for pork. There is still considerable variation among miniature pigs, including pot-bellied pigs. Names such as “micro” on an advert tell you little about the height or weight a particular piglet will reach.
Ask to see the adults
Ask how old the parents are and whether you can meet them. A one-year-old pig may still have several years of growing ahead. A shoulder-height measurement from a mature parent is more useful for planning a shelter entrance than a photo of a piglet beside a cup.
Before you decide
Picture the adult walking through your gate, turning around in the shelter and travelling to the vet. When you contact our farm near Liège, tell us about the space you have and ask which adult relatives you can see on a visit.
